Volunteer Opportunities

Join our team and make a difference for animals in need! Our volunteers play a vital role in keeping the shelter running smoothly—whether it’s helping with daily cleaning, spending time socializing cats and dogs, or giving pups a much-needed break through our Dog Day Out program. Every task, big or small, helps provide comfort, enrichment, and care to the animals while they wait for their forever homes. Sign up today and be a part of something meaningful!

We have many ways for volunteers to get involved at PCHS:
-Cat socialization
-Transportation
-Well-Behaved Dog Socialization
-Cat room cleaning
-General cleaning (sweeping, vacuuming, laundry, washing windows, etc.)

-Thrift Store Volunteer
-Other opportunities as able (social media help, animal care help, etc.)

First step is to sign-up fill out our Shelter Volunteer Application. Our application will help us get some information on you and what you are interested in for volunteering.

Our staff will review and accept applications in a timely manner. Once approved, you will get a link to our orientation video and to our volunteer sign-up link to sign-up for volunteer shifts.

Please let us know if you have any questions, otherwise, we hope to get your application soon!

PCHS Dog Day Out Program

This is a new volunteer program to provide shelter dogs with a short field trip to give them a break from the shelter. Take them on a walk in town, at a park, etc. By taking them out for just a few hours a day, our temporary residents can exert pent up energy as well as be mentally stimulated to new experiences and people! As a result of a Dog Day Out, our dogs are less anxious or exuberant when they meet potential adopters and they gain useful life skills that they wouldn’t get from just sitting and waiting in the shelter. Another added bonus is that people who are not likely to come into shelters are still able to see our available animals!

Please note that shelter dogs will not be allowed to go to dog parks or to homes or settings with other dogs in order to ensure safety for all parties unless otherwise noted by staff.

If you are interested in becoming a Dog Day Out Volunteer, fill out our application. Once reviewed, you will be notified via email and you will get a link to our online orientation video and get a link to our monthly Google Calendar Sign-up.

For outings we will provide you with a leash, harness, collar with ID tag, a dog walking fanny pack with treats, water bottle, collapsible water dish, poop bags, and adopter interest cards.

Group volunteer projects are a great way to make a meaningful impact together! These opportunities focus on larger tasks like yardwork, painting, organizing, and other improvement projects that help keep our shelter clean, safe, and welcoming. Perfect for teams, clubs, or groups of friends, these projects make a big difference for both our animals and our facility.
