Stray animal intakes do not require a surrender fee. We believe that helping lost and homeless animals should never come with a financial barrier. However, caring for these animals—from medical care and vaccinations to food and shelter—does come at a significant cost. If you are able, an at-will donation is greatly appreciated and helps us continue providing compassionate care and a safe place for animals in need.

If you find a stray animal, we encourage you to bring them to PCHS so we can scan for a microchip and help reunite them with their owner. While we can never guarantee that we will be able to take in every stray, we will always do our best to assist when capacity allows. If you’re unable to come to us right away, there are other options available—microchip scanning services are offered at Glacial Ridge Veterinary Clinic in Glenwood, as well as most local veterinary clinics. You can also access our 24/7 microchip scanning stations located at the Starbuck City Building in Starbuck, MN, and Western Prairie Human Services in Glenwood, MN. Checking for a microchip is often the quickest way to get a lost pet back home.
Impound fees help cover the expense of caring for lost animals such as food, utilities, and staffing. This price applies to any animal that is impounded after the 1st time and is not microchipped. Fee will decrease to $70 if owner agrees to microchip the impounded animal.
This fee is applied only if animal is picked up by the Starbuck police department.
All Canines that reside in the city of Starbuck are required to be licensed. If your dog does not have this license, you are required to get one before your dog is released from impound. You must provide your license number if you have already acquired a license for your dog
